Welcome to your new Monday update.
It's Saturday night, about 11:20PM here on the best coast. I'm sitting here going through my Apple Music, and a song just came on: "One Day at a Time" by Joe Walsh. This is not a music history lesson, but Joe was and is a member of the Eagles. Not my favorite band, but he wrote this song about his long and terribly challenging road through recovery. The point is that Joe won. This song always sat with me because of the resilience in it. "Had to learn to live my life one day at a time" is the lyric that speaks to me most.
I often think of this song when I think about CollabED. A year ago, none of this existed. No platform, no podcast, no resource library, no community. There have been sleepless nights, a lot of personal money spent, and a lot of mental capital drained. But a year later, what exists is something I am profoundly proud of. And it exists because of the people in it: the volunteers who build it, and the educators who show up, share, and make it a real community.
Which leads me to the next lyric: "Well I finally got around to admit that I was the problem." That one sits with me too. I've taken on too much. CollabED is growing faster than one teacher with two other jobs and two very rambunctious kids can keep up with 🙂
So here's the news. Beginning this week, you'll hear me start introducing people moving into director leadership positions here at CollabED. These positions were created to support our mission. They'll help shape the platform, be some of our outward faces, and make sure this community gets the attention it deserves, even when I can't be everywhere at once. It took me a year, but I finally got around to admitting it.
I am so tremendously proud of what is being built here, and so incredibly grateful that you're part of it. Whether you volunteer your time, listen to the podcast, take a course, or just log in and say hello, this doesn't work without you. Read that over and over. It's true. If you ever want to get more involved, or have ideas, my Slack is always on, my email works, and I am here to listen.
